Pomes . . .

I received two parcels
from Church House Bookshop.

One was an article which I had ordered
and the other was a freebie.

The freebie was a book of pomes by,
let’s not say shall we
as we don’t want

At school I thought
“Dirty British coaster with salt-caked smoke stack
Butting through the channel in the mad March days . . . ”
was a pome.

But now it seems we all had
books of pomes
in our homes
only we didn’t know that

They were called
Telephone Directories
and they made more sense.
