New Galloway – Then and Now

High Street, New Galloway, 1914. From a Facebook post.

Not so very different. The ground to the left in the foreground seems to have altered in some way. The village school behind the railings on the right is now the CatStrand Arts centre.

For us, in pre COVID days, a pleasant Sunday outing would have been a Sunday Lunch at the carvery in the Crown Hotel in Newton Stewart, followed by a run past Clatteringshaws – maybe a naughty but nice stop at the Visitor Centre café there – then home via New Galloway and down the west side of Loch Ken.

Will we ever do that again ?
