At Christmas we think of Christmas presents – arriving in a sock at the end of the bed perhaps. But Charles Dickens in his story “A Christmas Carol” has Scrooge visited by three ghosts of Christmases – “Past”, “Present”, and “Future”. Christmas “Present” is here brought home to us by this notice on the Dumfries and Galloway Council web site about arrangements to feed children on holiday from school – one meal per day – over the Christmas and New Year holiday period. Welcome to the “United” Kingdom this Christmas in the year of Our Lord 2019.
Christmas 2019 Holiday Food Fund Programme 2019/2020
Dumfries and Galloway Council have now opened their Holiday Food Fund for applications for the Christmas Holidays 2019.
Following on from the successful delivery of the October 2019 Holiday Food Fund Programme, Dumfries and Galloway Council are now opening the application process for any third sector organisations (subject to meeting the criteria of the fund) who wish to apply for funding to deliver Holiday Food Fund Projects over the Christmas Holiday Period which this year is from Monday 23 December 2019 until Tuesday 7 January 2020. Any organisations who have previously successfully applied for funding for this Christmas Holiday period do not need to reapply.
This funding is only for the food costs for Holiday Food Fund programmes for Primary 1 to S6 pupils from Monday 23 December 2019 to Tuesday 7 January 2020 (16 days inclusive).
We will fund 1 meal per day per child/young person at £1.95 per lunch and on Christmas Day, we will fund 1 meal per child/young person at £5.00
Do not misunderstand me. I am not criticising them for doing this, but we keep being told that we are the 5th richest country in the world, whilst some of our parents cannot feed their children so that the children have to be fed – out of the Education Budget presumably ?
